How can I use Impero Assist to write control descriptions?

Save time with AI-powered suggestions to draft, improve, and refine your control descriptions.

Video guide

What is Impero Assist?

Impero Assist helps you draft and refine control descriptions using AI. It is available directly in the control editor and can:

  • Generate a draft description from scratch
  • Improve or rewrite an existing description
  • Suggest structural changes, such as adding bullets or shortening the text

All suggestions are proposals — nothing is applied to your control automatically.

When can I use Impero Assist?

You can use Impero Assist when:

  • Creating a new control
  • Editing an existing control
  • A control is assigned to a control program

Note: The feature requires the control to belong to a control program.

How does it work?

The Impero Assist panel opens as a drawer in the control editor. What you see depends on whether the description field is empty or already has content.

If the description is empty

You will see the button: Suggest description

  1. Click Suggest description.
  2. Choose a quick prompt: Create draft or Suggest bullets.
  3. Review the generated suggestion.
  4. Click Insert to apply it, continue refining, or close the drawer to discard.

If the description already contains content

You will see the button: Improve description

  1. Click Improve description.
  2. Choose a quick action: Rewrite, Shorten, Make into a list, or Summarize.
  3. Review the proposed improvement.
  4. Click Insert to apply it, continue refining, or close the drawer to discard.

Can I write my own instructions?

Yes. You can type your own prompt in the input field instead of using a quick action. Examples:

  • "Make it more specific"
  • "Add objective and procedures headings"
  • "Clarify responsibilities"
  • "Shorten and make more formal"

What information does Impero Assist use?

Impero Assist generates suggestions based on the following information from your control:

  • The control title
  • The existing control description (if any)
  • The control program name
  • Your written prompt

Note: Output quality improves with more specific control titles and clear prompts.

How do I get better suggestions?

To get the most useful results:

  • Use specific control titles. For example, use "Monthly financial reporting to regulator" rather than "Financial reporting".
  • Provide additional instructions in the custom prompt field.
  • Iterate — you can refine suggestions multiple times before applying.

What do I do if something goes wrong?

If an error occurs, you will see an error message in the Impero Assist drawer. You can:

  • Click Retry to resend the same request.
  • Enter a new prompt to generate a fresh suggestion.

Important considerations

  • Suggestions are AI-generated drafts and do not constitute compliance advice.
  • You are responsible for reviewing and validating the final description before saving.
  • Your data is not used to train external models.

Frequently asked questions

Does Impero Assist replace a compliance review?

No. The feature is a writing assistant only. All descriptions must be reviewed and approved by the relevant responsible users before use.

Is my data used to train external models?

No. Your data is not used to train external AI models.

Why are some suggestions generic?

The AI only uses the information available in the control. The more specific your title and context, the better the suggestions will be.
